GlobalOutageMap is operated by Powerminds, a sole proprietorship registered in the Netherlands (KvK 97879371), based in Teteringen. Powerminds is the data controller for personal data processed through GlobalOutageMap. You can reach us at [email protected].
We collect as little as possible. Specifically:
We do not ask for your name, address or other personally identifying information to use the free site.
Where GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
The site uses a small number of strictly functional cookies needed for it to work (e.g. remembering your language and dismissed banners). On your first visit we ask for your consent for two additional categories:
Until you accept, no analytics or advertising cookies are set and Google Consent Mode v2 signals "denied" to all third parties. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time via the Cookies link in the footer.
If you subscribe, your email address is used solely to send you outage alerts, alerts or account magic-links you signed up for. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
The GlobalOutageMap browser extension only shows the status of the services on your watchlist. When you connect it, it receives a revocable session key that lets it read your watchlist and plan, nothing else. It does not read your browsing history, page content or other tabs, and it sends no analytics or advertising data.
The extension stores its session key, your notification choice and recent status locally in your browser. Notifications only appear when you turn them on in the extension and allow them in Chrome. You can disconnect every extension at any time on the connect page or by removing the extension; your email alerts stay unchanged.
We do not sell personal data. We share the minimum necessary with the following categories of recipients (with one current example per category for transparency; the specific provider in each category may change over time):
Some providers (e.g. Google for Analytics & AdSense) are located in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards: the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) certification of the recipient where applicable, or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses combined with supplementary technical measures. You can request a copy of the relevant safeguards by emailing us.
Email addresses for subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Account and billing records are kept for as long as legally required (typically 7 years for tax records). Anonymous analytics are retained for the periods set by our analytics provider.
Operational and security logs are automatically deleted on a nightly schedule according to GDPR-proportional retention windows:
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures (encryption in transit, access controls, least-privilege database access) to protect personal data. No system is 100% secure, but we work to keep risks low.
Depending on your location you have rights under data protection laws (such as GDPR), including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port or object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can exercise these rights by emailing [email protected]. We will respond within one month. If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the Netherlands: the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
This policy may be updated from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change.
