Is DigiD down?

Current status of DigiD is unknown

We do not have enough recent official information to confirm the current service status. A reachable website alone does not establish service health.

We can not read DigiD's status page automatically. What you see here comes from news coverage and visitor reports, so a problem can show up later here than on the official page. Check the official status page for the latest.

About DigiD

DigiD is the national login for Dutch government services. When DigiD fails, dozens of unrelated services become unusable at once: the tax office, health insurers, pension funds, municipalities and hospital portals.

Common DigiD problems

  • Login fails at the DigiD app step, while the SMS-code method still works, or the reverse.
  • Identity verification loops where the app and the website never connect.
  • Peak-load slowness around tax season and annual deadlines, when millions log in within days.
  • A downstream service rejects a valid DigiD session, which looks like a DigiD failure but is a problem at the receiving organisation.

Where to check officially

  • Logius, the operator, publishes DigiD information at logius.nl - DigiD.
  • The DigiD website itself shows a notice banner during major disruptions.
  • No machine-readable status feed is published, so GlobalOutageMap relies on news and user reports.

What to do when DigiD is down

  1. Try the alternative login method, switch between the DigiD app and SMS verification.
  2. Check whether other DigiD services also fail. If only one portal fails, the problem is that organisation, not DigiD.
  3. Do not repeatedly enter your password. Too many failed attempts can temporarily block your account.
  4. Deadline pressure? Most Dutch government bodies accept a documented outage as grounds for a short extension, take a screenshot with a timestamp.

See the live status above, based on news coverage and user reports. Logius does not publish a machine-readable status feed.
Why does one government website fail while another works with the same DigiD?
DigiD only handles authentication. Once you are logged in, the service itself takes over — so a failure can sit at the individual organisation instead of at DigiD.
What if I miss a deadline because DigiD was down?
Document the outage with a timestamped screenshot and contact the organisation. Widely reported national outages are generally recognised as a valid reason for a short extension.
